Studio Update - The design phase began in early June and as of the end of October the studio is now under construction. The footings are complete, the walls are going up and with all the kiln gods on my side, I will be able to start working in mid-December and I can't wait for that day. I have been able to do a small amount of work in the garage but I run out of room quite quickly and I now have racks of greenware waiting to be fired. A new batch of WhymsiePods are holding court in the laundry room along with my distorted porcelain bottles, petal plates, serving plates and masks. In addition to my own work, I have been working on a clay project with the Clay in Education division of the Oregon Potters Association. On Labor Day Monday I coordinated a clay booth and we had over 100 children come put their hands in clay and make links. At the end of the day, I came home with 169 links and at least 2 dozen kiln gods. All of the pieces have been slowly drying and most have been given a colorful coat, actually 3 coats, of underglaze. As soon as the kilns are hooked up, the first firing will be underway. Stay tuned for pictures & updates on the "Linkin' Up" project. The kilns have been stored since early March and the kiln gods have been keeping a close eye on them making sure that they do not collect too much dust. Patiently I wait.
